Today is the 80th anniversary of the formation of the “Independent State of Croatia”, a Nazi-puppet regime whose genocidal policies resulted in the extermination of 320-340K Serbs, est. 30K Jews & Roma, respectively; another 100K+ anti-fascist Croats, 1000s of Bosniaks & others.
The Jasenovac death camp alone was the site of an est 80-100K killings, approx half of which were Serbs from the occupied territories; 10-20K Jews & Roma, respectively; a est. combined 5-15K Croats, Bosniaks & others.
The primary targets of the NDH’s extermination policies were Serbs, Jews, and Roma. Tens of thousands of others were killed too but the elimination of these specific communities was the alpha and omega of the Ustaša regime.
Today, attempts to rehabilitate various aspects of the NDH are growing among various Croat nationalist movements in Croatia & BiH, even as Zagreb maintains an official policy of recognition & commemoration. https://balkaninsight.com/2021/04/09/croatian-street-names-still-bear-names-of-wwii-fascists/">https://balkaninsight.com/2021/04/0...
