I love this video! This is the joy and safety that students should have in their learning. But what& #39;s interesting to me is that it appears this joy of learning is happening in the student& #39;s home. 1/12 https://twitter.com/Frediculous/status/1309898452206153728">https://twitter.com/Frediculo...
When I first saw this video I openly laughed. My first thought was what a quick witted and humorous mind, who evidently spent a lot of time with grown folk. The laugh was full belly, which usually happens in affirming spaces.

I also saw that the tweet had numerous likes 2/12
Most of the comments that I read were positive but I did come across one that brought up my alerts. It made me think of how this type of experience in the video could be interpreted in a regular classroom setting. 3/12
The comment, I perceived, was from an educator. "You see what teachers have to deal with. I pray for y& #39;all." Now, I don& #39;t know how the comment was intended. That& #39;s why I chose to respond without including the author. I want to address the possible impact of the statement. 4/12
The comment brought up a personal experience. My baby brother was such a curious, witty, and innovative child. His early childhood was spent around older children and adults. He learned quickly and was very wise for his age. 5/12 #IStandOnFreedomHill
Then he went to school. My baby brother went from being inquisitive and creative to distracted and unmotivated. He played video games zealously, his school work was avoided zealously. My mother even had him tested for a learning disability. There was none. 6/12
How does a wise and inquisitive child become a distracted and unmotivated student? Which brings me back to the comment and the video. How many educators do you know who would have shush, corrected, ignored, or reprimanded the student in the video? 7/12

What& #39;s the impact on a child whose natural experience of learning is considered such an issue that prayers are necessary for educators to "endure?" What would be the impact if all educators encouraged learning experiences just like this? 8/12 #IStandOnFreedomHill
A culturally responsive teacher would lean into this response. This would lead to discussion about value, economic power, social class, personal finance, and differing perspectives of money. Critical thinking, problem solving, inquiry, reflection, and social justice. 9/12
School should be the place where students become more of who they are and not less. School should encourage more of the experiences in the video and none of my brother& #39;s experience. How? Educators, we have to transform our education mindsets. 10/12 #IStandOnFreedomHill
