wait i want to rant about fish for a second holdon hold on
this is gonna start with mollies bc non oomf got mollies and they will not leave my brain
OK!!!! these guys are kinda common in pet stores (not as common as bettas or goldfish but they r common) and they come in very different colors and types!! here are some examples
they are livebearers! kinda like humans but Tiny and ... theyre fish. Also look at this cool balloon molly
betta time this is gonna be very long

bettas are tropical fish just like mollies! they prefer 74-79 degree water but if they are sick a steady 80 is best

they r a type of gourami

they have something called a labyrinth organ which means they can breathe air. which is sick
there are many different types of betta, including tail type and species! most common tail type is veiltail (1st pic) but other ones are crowntail (2nd), halfmoon (3rd) and plakat (4th)

all males have long tails, females have shorter tails
females can be kept in sororities but if youre a beginner DONT DO THIS !!! anyways hav some girls (last one is a glofish)
also king bettas (they r HUge)
another kind of betta is the mahachai! they have a beautiful spade shaped tail and green body. i love them Alot
smaragdina! they have a web like tail (does that make sense) and are also very pretty
ANYWAYs betta spendens (the ones i showed w the long tails n stuff) need 5+ (10 is best) gallons w heated, cycled and filtered water. plastic plants are vvv bad for them as they can tear the fin and if your water isnt pristine then they will absolutely get finrot
so getting silk / live plants is way better. (but you might have to still deal w finrot if youre getting ur betta from p*tco or w*lmart)

they can run at a pretty high price if youre getting something like a koi plakat (15+ dollars) but generally they wont go over $10
many people see them (and goldfish) as disposable purely bc of the price but !!! they are still living and deserve Love :)

have some dumbos
also their lifespans r pretty long depending on where you get them . finding good breeders is the best bc they know the parents and if they had any preexisting conditions that you want to know about

a typical lifespan is 2-5 years but they can live longer sometimes
theyre very smart fish (literally underwater dogs) and you can teach them tricks !!! like jumping out of the water to get food. they also love playing with floating things (golf balls, floating plants, blah blah)

males will build bubble nests too and they can get HUGE.
they do this bc they keep eggs in the bubbles n stuff. watching them work on nests is always so cool

but doing your own research when getting a pet is always so important even when its something like a fish!! so please do ur research and dont always trust the ppl at the store
end of thread yes its very sudden but my twitter will literally crash if i go any farther. so. sorry for such a long thread ijust wanted to talk about Them

have an old picture of my betta

+ i most definitely will add on to this at a later date so :)
