Occasionally a normie reader will complain that I go into "too much detail" in Faction, as they are only interested in pure diversion

Most understand what I am doing, so here& #39;s a light dusting of weapons autism that is going into the prequel - Josef in the Spanish Civil War https://twitter.com/KarlDahl5/status/1245364879562665984">https://twitter.com/KarlDahl5...
George Orwell famously commented that history is largely a story driven by weapons technology, and individual weapons are democratic. He included hand grenades in this category

At the start of the Spanish Civil War, the various sides found themselves lacking hand grenades
Spanish military issue grenades are frequently referred to as "unreliable" in narratives of the war. One of the key variants was the Thevenot-Lafitte, a French WWI-era design

Grenade fuse systems vary significantly - impact type, percussion fired, friction fired, and so on
Accounts speak of the "tape" that had to be unraveled before throwing, as well as inconsistent fuse burning times

Militias preferred their own homespun designs, even those with simple exposed match-lit fuses, as they were more consistent. Note the cap that kept the fuse dry
These militia shop-made grenades are extremely simple because grenades are simple

The universal element in all of these defensive (frag) grenades is a cast iron body, scored for fragmentation, with a fuse of varying complexity, based upon a proven design
Wrapping up with two highly refined Republican late-war designs

Again, I am incorporating practical information into the novel because learning is fun-damental
