ok so I wanna talk about how telling people to & #39;go see a therapist& #39; is not always a perfect solution(thread, from my own experiences). If I am wrong about any of my points/assumptions feel free to point it out and I will correct/delete it(1/7)
1) therapy is expensive. and therapy isn& #39;t just something that you do once. It& #39;s a long term process. And having multiple sessions over months can rack up the expenses. Still might be affordable for professionals. But students, especially school students just can& #39;t afford it(2/7)
And while some parents are very progressive and will happily let their children go see a therapist, most of our parents aren& #39;t educated about mental health(issues) and there does exist a taboo around it so they probably won& #39;t pay for our therapy(3/7)
2) not all therapists are good/suitable for you. okay so this is one of those situations where your mileage may vary but I didn& #39;t really & #39;like& #39; the first therapist that I ever saw. I can& #39;t really delve much deeper into this without explaining in details my own issues(4/7)
which I don& #39;t want to do.
3) therapy is not always available. this is not much of a problem for those of us who live in the big cities. but for smaller towns and villages there& #39;s just not enough therapists. And sometimes there& #39;s no therapists at all.(5/7)
Sometimes schools and colleges will have in house counselors but the vast majority of schools in India don& #39;t have mental health services for their students.(6/7)
Now yes, online therapy is a thing and is often cheaper than in person therapy, but I have personally found that in person is just better. sitting in a comfortable environment and sipping a cup of coffee just has a different feel to it and has worked better for me(7/7)
thanks to @sadboihours68 for suggesting this. Going to see a therapist, especially for the first time is a very very daunting task. You will need all the support of your friends/family to do this (8/8)
