Right, I& #39;m not done with this nursing home issue.

Fake news still a plenty that Ireland is "letting people die" in nursing homes.

Time for some numbers!

1/
. @HSELive don& #39;t give a day-by-day sets of numbers on deaths in nursing homes, it& #39;s all done through statements.

They don& #39;t do themselves any favours, but anyhow...

2/
Normally a sentence explicitly stating that deaths are in hospital settings would be enough. But alas, no, not in a pandemic.

People like to make up their own hysterical interpretation of events.

Anyway, back to numbers.

5/
Also yesterday, we learnt that 152 of the 365 deaths (42%) took place "in" nursing homes.

So the death took place inside the nursing home.

So we have:
- 54% of deaths "had been" in nursing homes
- 42% died inside nursing homes

But 42% =/= 54%, so not every nursing home resident died in their nursing home.

7/
Assuming a resident will only die in the nursing home, or in hospital, that means 13% of deaths (~51 people) have been "moved to hospital".

8/
That& #39;s 51 people who were given a fighting chance by being moved to a hospital.

51 is only those who died. Those who were moved out and are still alive will be many dozens more!

Please share this thread with anyone you know who is buying into the fake news narrative of nursing home residents being "allowed to die".

They& #39;re misinformed, but we can help people by showing them the facts.
