THREAD: Over the past number of weeks, many of us have noticed a sudden, inorganic surge of support for the government across Irish Twitter, despite obvious shortcomings. But why is this? It begs the question, who are behind these “Blinder bot” accounts?
To give just one example: Meet @marieocallaghan. Despite barely tweeting at all for the past few years, since March she has sprung into action, fervently defending FG, Leo and Simon at every corner, praising all their great work and shouting down any criticism she can find.
The other day she decided to reply to me, declaring that “we”, (whoever that is), are REAL PEOPLE, and very thankful for the governments actions. However, when I accused her of vested interests, I was ignored. When @Bapajo3 asked what she works as, she became “uncomfortable”.
Why would that make her uncomfortable? I think its a reasonable question, surely she’s a concerned citizen like the rest of us, who just wants the best possible outcome from this? Taking a closer look, you can imagine my shock when I found she works for a major global corporation
EY, or Ernst & Young Global Ltd. is a huge international financial and professional services firm, that specializes in “assurance” “tax” and “advisory services”. With its fingers in just about every pie, it’s no surprise that it was entangled in controversy both here and in China
And when they’re not doing, you know, all that financial stuff and “creating value”, EY are committed to “building a better working world” which apparently includes, but is certainly not limited to; “LGBT+ policy”, “Diversity and Inclusiveness” “Climate Awareness” etc.
Now, do I care at all that she works for them? No. Why wouldn’t she? The pay/perks are great. My problem is that these people are incredibly disingenuous. They need the status quo just as much as it needs them, and they do not give one damn about Ireland, nor what happens to her.
